Israeli pol's daughter arrested at Kennedy
The daughter of a high-ranking Israeli Knesset member was arrested earlier this week at Kennedy Airport on outstanding drug charges in Florida, authorities said.
Port Authority spokesman Al Della Fave identified the arrested woman as Talya Ben-Eliezer of Aventura, Fla.
The Israeli government confirmed Ben-Eliezer, 39, is the daughter of Knesset member Binyamin Ben-Eliezer, who once served as Israeli defense minister.
A spokesman for the Israeli Consulate in Manhattan, Shahar Azani, said officials would not address specifics of the case and issued a statement that read: "The matter is being handled by consular services. We are not at liberty to discuss individual cases."
Talya Ben-Eliezer was attempting to clear Customs at Terminal 4 at about 8:40 p.m. Wednesday, booked on Delta Flight 268 to Tel Aviv, when a check revealed an active felony warrant issued July 27 in Hillsborough, Fla., U.S. officials said.
Della Fave said that the no-bail warrant was issued for obtaining prescription drugs by fraud. Officials said Ben-Eliezer was arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the terminal.
It was not immediately clear Thursday whether she had been arraigned or where she was being held.
