A Manhattan judge gave Ja Rule a break yesterday, postponing the start of his two-year prison term as the rapper wraps up recording his latest album and settles an unknown beef with the taxman.
Supreme Court Judge Richard Carruthers said the 40-year-old rapper could wait until June 8, six months after he entered his plea on second-degree attempted weapon possession, to go to prison. Prosecutors objected to the delay. His lawyer did not elaborate on the tax issue but has said the performer also wants to complete his album, “Renaissance Project.”
The case dates to 2007, when Ja Rule was arrested after a Lil Wayne & Friends concert at the Beacon Theatre. When cops stopped Ja Rule’s Maybach, they discovered a .40 caliber Taurus gun with filed-off serial numbers inside.
