Jets wide receiver Braylon Edwards free after DWI arrest

Jets’ bad-boy wide receiver Braylon Edwards was arrested early yesterday morning for drunk driving after police pulled him over on the West Side Highway and determined his blood-alcohol level was twice the legal limit.

Fellow teammates D’Brickashaw Ferguson and Vernon Gholston were with Edwards in his Range Rover at the time of the arrest, the Jets said, but they don’t face charges.

“We are very disappointed in Braylon’s actions,” the Jets said in a statement, adding that he “showed poor judgment.”

“We are reviewing the information with the league and will impose the appropriate disciplinary measures,” the team said.

Edwards, 27, was released without bail yesterday afternoon and told to report back to court Nov. 9.

Outside of the courthouse Edwards declined to comment immediately on his arrest, telling the New York Post, “There will be plenty of time to talk.”

His lawyer said Edwards is exhausted and focused on getting back to his team.

This is just the latest of Edwards’ brushes with the law. He is already on probation for punching a man outside a Cleveland nightclub. With the addition of the drunk driving bust,

Edwards may be facing an NFL suspension. The league did not comment yesterday.

Edwards, who was traded from the Cleveland Browns last year, was pulled over at 4:45 a.m. yesterday because his windows seemed overly tinted. Police discovered that he had “watery and bloodshot eyes” and said he smelled of alcohol, court documents said. A Breathalyzer test showed Edwards had a 0.16 blood-alcohol content.
