A TSA agent from Queens was arrested after authorities said he stole $61 from the wallet of a man going through a security checkpoint at Kennedy Airport on Saturday.
The agent, identified as Joe Bangay, 37, of St. Albans, was charged with criminal possession of stolen property and larceny after being arrested by Port Authority police, Port Authority spokesman Joe Pentangelo said. Arraignment details were not available.
The Port Authority said the incident, at about 10 a.m. at an undisclosed terminal, was documented by airport surveillance.
Authorities said the victim, identified only as a 26-year-old Bronx man, was "going through routine screening" when he placed his wallet in a bin from screening. When he retrieved the wallet, authorities said, the victim found $61 was missing.
Photographic evidence documented that Bangay, the on-duty Transportation Security Administration agent, in uniform, at the checkpoint had taken the cash.
Airport service was not disrupted, authorities said.
