John Oliver's temporary stint behind "The Daily Show" desk has paid off.

HBO announced Thursday that Oliver will be the host of a similar satirical news show starting in 2014. "I'm incredibly excited to be joining HBO, especially as I presume this means I get free HBO now," the 36-year-old British comedian told Deadline.com.

Oliver subbed during the summer for Jon Stewart, who took time off from "The Daily Show" to direct a film. Oliver thanked him and the show for seven years of support with a tongue-in-cheek jab. "If I fail in the future, it's entirely his fault," he said of Stewart.
