A kitten from Brooklyn has found a guardian angel in the form of an NYPD officer.

Police responded to calls Friday reporting a tiny stray trapped under the engine block of a minivan in Brighton Beach, the NYPD told ABC News.

The officers had trouble coaxing the frightened kitten out from under the car. That's when  Officer John Passarella, 27, stepped in.

Passarella got on his back and slid beneath the van, but was unable to reach the startled cat, who is estimated to be only a month or two old, ABC News reports. Eventually, he was able to lift his arm into the car's engine block and pull the kitty to safety.

The cat's good fortune doesn't end there -- the New York Post reports that he's been adopted by another cop, who named him Pazzy for his rescuer.

"[I'm] definitely ecstatic that someone I know personally was able to take the cat," Passarella told ABC News.
