JonBenet Ramsey's father calls toddler pageants 'very bizarre'

The father of murdered child beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey called the current crop of reality TV pageants "very bizarre" in an interview Tuesday with ABC News.

John Ramsey said he's only caught snippets of the TLC show, "Toddlers and Tiaras," but didn't think his daughter and late wife would have related.

"Patsy and JonBenet didn't approach it that way. We -- they just did it for fun," said Ramsey, whose new book is called "The Other Side of Suffering."

The death of 6-year-old JonBenet captivated the nation in 1996, when she was found dead in the basement of the family's Boulder, Colo., home.

The case became tabloid fodder after police cast doubt on the Ramseys. No one was ever charged in the girl's death, and Patsy Ramsey died in 2006 of ovarian cancer.

"We were so naive," John Ramsey said. "I now believe with all my heart that it's not a good idea to put your child on public display."
