The toxic tower contaminated by debris from the Sept. 11 terror attacks is finally gone.

But it will be the focus at a trial surrounding the deaths of two firefighters in a 2007 blaze there. A construction company foreman and two supervisors face manslaughter charges in the blaze at the former Deutsche Bank building.

Jury selection is their trial is set to begin Monday. The fire exposed a litany of failures by a company and government agencies involved in taking down the building.

The process ended last month. Prosecutors say the men knew about, didn’t fix and covered up a major break in a crucial firefighting water pipe, and the lack of water turned the building into a death trap. The men say they’re being faulted for regulators’ mistakes.
