Kardashian Kuhrazy: Baby names increasingly reflect pop culture

The Social Security Administration has released 2011's top 1,000 baby names and Mason -- the name of Kourtney Kardashian's little boy, born Dec. 14, 2009 -- catapulted 10 spots to become the second most popular name for boys in the country, right behind Jacob and before William.

Brantley -- the first name of both country singer Brantley Gilbert and the last name of University of Florida quarterback John Brantley -- surged more than any other boy's name in popularity, from number 736 in 2010 to 320 last year.

Sophia replaced Isabella as the top girl's name with variations also showing strongly, perhaps a partial nod to Modern Family's popular actress Sofia Vergara. (Sofia rose from 26th place in 2010 to 19th last year and Sophie inched up from 59th to 51st place.) Sophia was followed by Isabella, Emma, Olivia and Emma.

There was also evidence that certain stars may have lost their hold in the firmament. Kimora dropped more in popularity than all but four other girl's names, from number 498 to 607. Briella, the girl's name that gained the most in popularity, which is shared by reality personality Briella Calafiore from "Jerseylicious" and "Glam Fairy"- rocketed from from 891st place up to 497th.

The most popular names for New York State will be released by the SSA on May 18.
