To me, it seems the creation of the perfect evening bag is a lost art. What was once thought of as the ultimate accessory seems to have been reduced to us girls throwing a lip gloss into our pocket before dashing out.

Luckily, it seems the glamour is back, thanks to high-end evening bag designer Judith Leiber, who has partnered with FEED, the popular charity headed by Lauren Bush to feed African schoolchildren.

The result is the FEED 1000 bag, a striking clutch made from metallic linen and featuring a beaded Navajo design. Unlike some of Leiber’s other creations, this bag won’t break the bank — though at $495, it might bend it a bit. It’s a purchase, however, that you can feel good about because for each bag sold, FEED will provide 1,000 school meals for underprivileged children through the UN World Food Program’s school-meals initiative.

The bag, which is made in Italy, comes in shimmery silver or gold and even has a chic little chain strap should you need to balance a cocktail and a plate of canapés.

I think the days of shoving a lip gloss in my pocket might be coming to an imminent end.

The Judith Leiber FEED 1000 clutch is available at Bergdorf Goodman.
