Kevin Ware will travel with Louisville for Final Four
Louisville’s Kevin Ware will travel with the team to the Final Four in Atlanta, where he attended high school, less than one week after suffering a compound fracture of his tibia against Duke in the Elite Eight last Sunday.
Ware, who was cleared by doctors to make the trip, spoke with ESPN’s Rece Davis Wednesday morning. He said there wouldn’t be a difference between this trip and past trips he has taken as a member of the team.
“It’s going to be how it was before the injury, honestly,” Ware told Davis. “It’s all business. We’ll have fun and celebrate.”
Ware, who was born in the Bronx, said that there is no definitive answer for why his leg broke, other than that it was a “freak accident.”
“The full force of me jumping so high and not seeing where I was landing caused the actual break,” he told Davis. “That’s really all I got out of it.”
When the injury occurred, players and coaches from both teams were visibly shaken. Several Louisville players collapsed to the court and head coach Rick Pitino was seen wiping away tears as medical personnel tended to Ware.
“The most important thing to me is he’s going to be fine again some day, he’s going to play basketball,” Pitino told Davis Wednesday. “As long as I know that, everything’s going to be fine.”
