Lawsuit alleges UFT covered up sex scandal involving UFT head

The head of the city's teachers union not only had an after-school tryst with one of his colleagues years ago, he also used his union influence to keep it under wraps, a lawsuit alleges.

A math teacher contends a janitor caught United Federation of Teachers president Michael Mulgrew and Emma Camacho-Mendez having sex in a woodshop classroom at William Grady High School sometime before 2008.

Mulgrew and Camacho-Mendez were both instructors at the Coney Island school at the time and both eventually became union representatives.

In the 73-page lawsuit that was filed in Brooklyn Civil Court, Andrew Ostrowsky, who now teaches in Manhattan, contends the union shielded the pair from any reprimand and forced the school's principal and staff to remain quiet about the incident.

A spokesman for the union blasted the suit and said it has no merit.

"This lawsuit is a catalog of absurd false charges which we expect the court to dismiss," UFT spokesman Dick Riley said in a statement.

Even Ostrowsky's attorney has her doubts about the alleged incident. Joy Hochstadt told the New York Post that she is looking for anyone who can provide more information about the incident.

"Everyone has only hearsay knowledge, but almost everyone in the school talked about it," Hochstadt said.

Ostrowsky contends he is being unnecessarily targeted for termination from his position at Frank Sinatra School of the Arts High School, according to the Post.
