Letterman host of CBS' 'Late Show' through 2014

Funnyman David Letterman has been booked on the "Late Show" for at least another two years.

Despite an offhand remark in early 2011 that he might retire from his hosting gig by next year, CBS announced Tuesday it's renewing his contract through 2014.

Also getting picked up is "The Late Late Show" host Craig Ferguson.

The continued presence of Letterman, who turns 65 this month, will allow him to become the longest-running late-night host on U.S. TV after starting his reign in 1982 on NBC. The late Johnny Carson currently holds that title after 30 years on the air.

Salaries for Letterman and Ferguson weren't made public.

"David Letterman is a late-night legend with an iconic show and Craig Ferguson continues to evolve the genre in exciting and innovative ways," CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler said in a statement.

Letterman films his show at the Ed Sullivan Theatre in midtown.
