In the late '80s and early '90s, while most girls I knew were amassing New Kids on the Block memorabilia, I was listening to the 1987 revival recording of Cole Porter's "Anything Goes" on repeat.

I was taken to see the Patti LuPone-helmed Lincoln Center production and was captivated by the timeless music, dancing and, of course, the 1930s nautical glamour. Granted, back then, I didn't catch every madcap nuance of the romantic comedy of errors but it didn't matter: The retro beauty of the characters was enough to sustain me.

So naturally, I jumped at the chance to interview Angelina Avallone, the strictly MAC Cosmetics-using makeup artist for Roundabout Theater Company's most recent revival, about the show's signature glamour and about MAC's limited-edition "Hey, Sailor" collection, which hits shelves Thursday.

"['Hey, Sailor!'] comes at a perfect time," Avallone said. "The colors are inspiring, they have a sense of happiness: the open seas, hope, romance - everything you hope for in the summer."

In terms of old-world appeal, the high-seas collection appears to hit the mark, with offerings such as sun-kissed bronzers, siren-worthy red lipsticks, glossy nail lacquers, shimmering body oils and peachy cheek flushes.

They make it possible to recreate the looks of Cole Porter's leading ladies, whether you prefer the brassy Reno Sweeney or the peaches-and-cream ingénue Hope Harcourt (or even a hunky sailor: They all wear bronzer and lip conditioner).

"This is a very glamorous production. It's fun, it's a surprise, it's delightful," Avallone said.
