Bernard Madoff's wife has visited him in the Manhattan jail where he has been held since pleading guilty to orchestrating perhaps the biggest Ponzi scheme in history.

News reports say Ruth Madoff arrived around 4:40 p.m. Monday for her first visit to the Manhattan Correctional Center.

She said nothing to reporters before or after her roughly 90-minute stay.

Her husband admitted last month to defrauding thousands of investors of billions of dollars. His sentencing is set for June 16.

Ruth Madoff has not been charged, but prosecutors want to seize the couple's assets, valued at $826 million at the end of last year.

Defense attorneys have indicated they may argue for Ruth Madoff to keep the pair's $7 million Manhattan apartment and about $62 million in securities.
