The Material Girl is proving herself to be just that.

Madonna was named the world's top-earning musician in the last year, raking in a mind-boggling $125 million, mostly through her MDNA tour, which grossed $305 million worldwide, along with merchandise sales and clothing lines, according to Forbes' annual ranking of the highest-earning musicians. The Forbes ranking used estimated earnings through June 2013.

Lady Gaga came in at No. 2 with $80 million after grossing $160 million on her latest tour, which was cut short by a hip injury.

Touring was the primary source of income for the world's highest-paid musicians, with Bon Jovi (No. 3), Toby Keith (No. 4) and Coldplay (No. 5) all earning the bulk of their fortunes from touring in the year.
