In a bizarre scene Thursday before taking on the Knicks, Magic coach Stan Van Gundy confirmed a report that star center Dwight Howard wants him out.

"I was told [the report] was true by people in our management," Van Gundy told reporters.

To make matters even more unusual, Howard walked by and put an arm around Van Gundy, who departed the scene seconds later. The three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year then denied the WKMG-TV story and asked a reporter for his source, unaware of Van Gundy's revelation.

Howard later told reporters, "I haven't said anything to anybody about anything."
