Fastrack

Subway service on the Eighth Avenue line will be shut down overnight for maintenance between Brooklyn and Manhattan for four days this week, starting Monday night.

The MTA is continuing the second round of its "Fastrack" program, canceling service on the A/C/E lines between 59th Street-Columbus Circle and Jay Street-Metrotech in both directions between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. through Friday morning. The transit agency says shutting down service allows its employees to do work faster, safer and cheaper than they would be able to do if the work were done between passing trains.

At least 25,000 straphangers will be inconvenienced by the work, which will add about 20 minutes to their commute.
