The man accused in the strangling death of his swimsuit designer ex-girlfriend at the Soho House last month reportedly told cops he fears being beat up in prison like on the TV show “Oz” and asked for protection.
“I’m Jewish and I’m worried about getting beat up by white supremacists,” said Nick Brooks, the 24-year-old son of “You Light Up my Life” composer Joseph Brooks, according to The Daily News, which cited court records.
“I watch the show 'Oz.' I’ve seen what happens in jail,” Brooks reportedly told cops. Brooks pleaded not guilty yesterday to second-degree murder in the death of Sylvie Cachay, 33, as the up-and-coming designer’s two brothers sat watching in Manhattan State Supreme Court.
Brooks insisted that Cachay was alive and sleeping when he left her room at the swanky hotel on Dec. 9 to party with a friend. Hotel workers later found Cachay dead in an overflowing bathtub.
“Truly it was disgusting to see this cowardly individual,” Cachay’s brother, Patrick, 38, said outside court, according to the New York Post.
Brooks faces 25 years to life in prison.
