Man arrested in PATH train shooting

A ride home from a night in Manhattan turned bloody for two PATH train riders who were shot early Sunday morning, Port Authority said.

Tari Turpin, 34, from East Orange, N.J., was arrested after allegedly shooting a man and a woman on a westbound PATH train around 5 a.m. After boarding from Penn Station, Turpin allegedly got into an argument with the two victims at the Newport-Pavonia station and fired a .9mm Glock pistol, striking the 24-year-old woman in the ankle and the 26-year-old man in one of his hands. Turpin was also hit by a bullet in his side, but a Port Authority spokesman said it was unclear whether another how he was shot. The pistol was the only weapon police recovered, the spokesman said.

Turpin fled the train and was arrested by two Port Authority police officers. The victims were taken to New Jersey Medical Center. The suspected gunman's list of charges includes two counts of aggravated assault and a count each for unlawful possession of a weapon and hollow-point bullet.
