A 45-year-old man wounded by gunfire early Tuesday morning was able to hail a cab to a hospital, where he is in critical but stable condition.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was shot three times shortly before 1:30 a.m. on West 88th Street and Amsterdam Avenue. He was struck twice in the torso and once in the left thigh. He then grabbed a cab to St. Luke's Hospital.

An NYPD spokeswoman said the cause of the shooting is being investigated. There is no information about the suspect.
