Man facing charges in Queens after fatal hit and run accident

A 19-year-old Elmhurst man was awaiting arraignment Monday in the Sunday hit-and-run death of an elderly Corona, Queens woman.

Area surveillance cameras captured the license plate number on the green, 2005 Dodge Caravan that hit Cui Ju Yu, 79, at Junction Boulevard and 50th Ave., around 3 p.m. Sunday, police said. Yu was taken to Elmhurst Hospital in critical condition, where she later died.

Tracing the plate number led police to the owner of the vehicle, who had lent it to Davod Rojas, police said. Rojas, who had no prior record, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death.
