Man gets 32 years to life for killing 13-year-old Harlem boy

The convicted killer of a 13-year-old Harlem boy received 32 years to life in prison Monday, Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance said.

Daniel Everret, 20, was convicted in March of second degree murder, first degree assault, and criminal possession of a weapon for shooting seven rounds into a crowd in 2008, killing Scotty Scott and injuring two others.

"The defendant fired seven shots wildly, recklessly, and with a sheer disregard for life into a crowd," Vance said. "As a result of this senseless gang violence, a young life was lost, two people were seriously wounded, and a neighborhood will never be the same."

Scott was killed after a fight broke out near Seventh Avenue and 144th Street between two Manhattan gangs, the Lenox Boys and 2MF, the latter of which Everret was a member, according to the district attorney's office. Everret opened fire on the crowd, hitting Scott in the torso and leg and killing him.
