A 41-year-old man is awaiting arraignment on murder charges after he was arrested in the stabbing death of his mother inside her New York City apartment.

The body of 67-year-old Barbara Schwartz was found in her Upper East Side apartment shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday. She had been stabbed multiple times with a kitchen knife.

Her son, Jonathan Schwartz, was arrested at the scene.

Published reports said Jonathan Schwartz has a history of psychological problems.

He was awaiting arraignment Sunday on charges including murder and criminal possession of a weapon. No information on an attorney for Schwartz was available.
