Cops are seeking a man who tried to rape a 21-year-old Gramercy Park woman after gaining entry to her home by telling her he was there to return her lost wallet.

The woman, who lives near Lexington Avenue and 26th Street, heard a knock on her door shortly before 2 a.m. Mondaymorning and was told by the man that he had her wallet, which he said she had left at a fast-food restaurant, according to the NYPD.

Realizing her wallet was missing, the woman unlocked the door, but "the man rushed the door, forced his way in and attempted to sexually assault her. She screamed and the suspect then fled," said a police source. The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital Center, where she was treated and released.
