Man may challenge findings in hotel death

A songwriter's son charged with murdering a swimsuit designer may contest findings that she died of strangulation and drowning in a New York City hotel bathtub.

Nicholas Brooks’ lawyer said Tuesday he’ll decide about that after reviewing medical examiners’ autopsy report on designer Sylvie Cachay’s Dec. 9 death. A judge has sealed the report but is letting defense lawyers and prosecutors see it.

Brooks, 25, has pleaded not guilty. Brooks told police Cachay was sleeping when he left her at the Soho House hotel.

A bottle of prescription drugs was found in the pair’s room. But medical examiners have declined to say whether any drugs were found in Cachay’s system.

Brooks’ father is "You Light Up My Life" songwriter Joseph Brooks.
