A Manhattan man who shot two police officers questioning him for illegally using a student MetroCard in a Long Island City subway station was sentenced to 55 years in prison on Thursday.

According to the Queens district attorney, Raul Nunez, 35, grabbed officer Jason Maass’ gun, and fired on officer Sharina Farina as the two cops asked him for ID on Oct. 21, 2008. Bullets ricocheted from the ground, critically injuring Maass, who had to retire from the NYPD at age 28 because of his injuries.

He also fired at a third officer, but missed. The officer, Lieutenant Gary Abrahall, returned fire, hitting Nunez three times.
