'Manhattan Madam' Kristin Davis arrested on charges of selling drugs: Officials

Kristin Davis, the longshot city comptroller candidate who claims to have arranged hookers for ex- Gov. Eliot Spitzer in his 2008 prostituion scandal, was arrested Monday for selling hundreds of prescription drugs to an FBI plant, the agencyannounced Tuesday.

Davis, 38, was charged with four counts of possessing and selling drugs, including oxycodone and amphetamine, to an FBI cooperating witness four times during four months this year, according to the criminal complaint that was unsealed Tuesday. After appearing in federal court Tuesday, she was released on a $100,000 bond Tuesday and is due back in court in September Davis, who didn't make a plea Tuesday, faces up to 80 years behind bars.

"As alleged, Kristin Davis sold dangerous and highly addictive prescription pills to a known drug dealer on repeated occasions in exchange for cash," said Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said.

Added FBI Assistant Director in Charge George Venizelos: "This type of criminal activity is illegal for citizens, and is especially unbecoming for a person seeking public office in the City of New York."

Davis, aka the Manhattan Madam, sold the drugs between January and April, officials said.

Davis served four months at Rikers for running a prostitution ring, and has claimed she set up escorts for Spitzer as early as 2005, claims that he has denied. She is running for the comptroller's office as a Libertarian, against Spitzer and Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer.
