Mayor Bloomberg pleads with sick Ground Zero workers to settle in lawsuit

With a multimillion dollar settlement for ill Ground Zero workers still in limbo, Mayor Michael Bloomberg pleaded for the responders to settle, saying the city has “no desire” to fight them in court.
A lawyer for the workers said 75 percent the 10,000 ground zero workers suing the city for injuries related to dust have signed a settlement, which is worth up to $713 million.
Ninety five percent of the plaintiffs must sign it by Nov. 8, or the case could go to trial, setting off a long, costly battle. The lawyer, William Groener, said he’s “very confident” they’ll reach that number.
Victims would get from a few thousand dollars to more than $1 million, depending on their injuries
