Mayor Mike praises Cuomo's budget proposal

Mayor Michael Bloomberg gave the thumbs up to Gov. Andrew Cuomo's budget proposal in Albany on Tuesday, a sign he's willing to cozy up to the top pol's plans and overlook past disagreements.

Bloomberg is on board with key issues, such as reforming the public employee pension system, which would allow workers to pick a 401(k)-type plan, and change how teachers are evaluated in schools. The independent mayor said the city stands to save billions of dollars with the changes and also earn extra state aid.

"In his budget, the governor has set an agenda that is both far-ranging and ambitious," Bloomberg said to a joint session of lawmakers. "Its energy and vision, I think, are just what this state needs."

Although last year, the two did not see eye to eye on how much the state should allocate in aid to the city, Bloomberg said yesterday the city "has a good partner in Albany."
