Booming DUMBO is about to become even bigger — Mayor Bloomberg Wednesday approved plans to build a residential building and parkland area at John Street, expanding the Brooklyn Bridge Park.

“New parkland and residential development at John Street will allow the park to grow and continue to thrive as one of the highlights of our city’s new green waterfront,” Bloomberg said in astatement.

The plans call for a residential building with 47 apartments and a ground floor filled with cultural and retail space, including an outpost of the Brooklyn Children’s Museum.

Additional parkland will be added, with features like a 13,000-square-foot gathering lawn, tree-lined pathways and pedestrian bridges over a tidal marsh.
The future John Street project is slated for a winter 2015 completion.
