Mayor pans NRA's plan for school guards
Mayor Michael Bloomberg blasted the National Rifle Association Tuesday over a study that recommends putting armed guards in schools.
Every school could have armed, trained personnel, according to a study funded by the NRA and unveiled Tuesday in response to December's massacre at a Connecticut school.
The National School Shield Task Force panel also called for an adoption of a plan that would arm school staffers.
Bloomberg, who is the co-chair of the Mayor's Against Illegal Guns coalition, called the proposal one of the stupidest ideas he heard.
"There's very few times when [a gun] would ever be used, and No. 2, there's absolutely no reason to believe that they would be well-trained enough and disciplined enough to do it as well as our police officers," he said at a news conference.
