Metro-North service back after freight train derailment
There will be regular service on the Metro-North railroad for the morning rush Mondayafter Thursday's freight derailment in the Bronx, the MTA said Sunday.
Only one of the two tracks will be ready for service, but that will be enough to operate 40 inbound and 12 outbound trains during the peak morning rush, according to the MTA. Still, the agency is anticipating delays up to 15 minutes.
"We believe Metro-North forces will be able to clear the wreck, rebuild the infrastructure and test all systems in time to provide regular train service come Monday morning," Metro-North President Howard Permut said in a Friday statement.
The Metro-North Hudson line was suspended Thursday evening after 10 cars of a 25-car CSX freight train carrying municipal garbage derailed near the Spuyten Duyvil station. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the derailment.
