Metro-North to be fully restored by Oct. 7: Officials

Full Metro-North service is expected to return by the middle of next week, as the MTA has called for a meeting to consider a credit for inconvenienced riders.

Service was running at about 50% Monday, after a circuit failure in Mount Vernon led to widespread service disruptions. Con Ed said yesterday that the cause for the failure was likely related to the power utility's work to upgrade the line's electrical cable, and that service should be restored by Oct. 7.

Early estimates for restoration put the date around Oct. 14, but after further testing from Con Ed, that prediction was moved up.

Officials added that more temporary service help may be on the way today.

Meanwhile, MTA chief Tom Prendergast will convene a special meeting Tuesdayto consider approving credit for customers affected by the disruption.
