It's safe to say that over the past few years, bacon has become more than a standard breakfast side dish - it's become a pop culture phenomenon, known as much for its rabid cult following as its salty, briny, fatty attributes. If you're part of bacon's foodie fan base, pay attention.

On June 23 the First Annual Bacon Bash will take place in midtown and will feature local restaurants - including Tommy Lasagna, Lucky 777 and Little Town NYC - whipping up the so-called "candy of meats" in unique (and in some cases, drinkable) ways. If you're planning on attending, you might want to start hitting that treadmill now.

First Annual Bacon Bash, Saturday, June 23, Arena Event Space, 135 W. 41st St., 12:30-2:30 p.m. or 3:30-6 p.m. Prices start at $25 for general admission. For tickets, visit iadventure.com.
