Misspelled victim's name on 9/11 memorial to be fixed this week

The unfortunate misspelling of a victim’s name at the 9/11 Memorial is expected to be fixed this week.

Opening day of the World Trade Center tribute was marred when relatives of the Cantor Fitzgerald employee Jeffrey H. Schreier realized that the “r” and “e” in his first name were transposed.

The error was particularly upsetting to Schreier’s family, according to reports, because his remains were never identified, and because they had also lost family members in the Holocaust who were likewise never recovered.

“As soon as we found out about this error we began working on how to make it right, and we’re engaged with our fabricators, contractors and the architect to do so,” said 9/11 Memorial spokesman Michael Frazier. “We regret an error was made,” he said.
