'Modern Family' star Sarah Hyland spills on illness

"Modern Family" actress Sarah Hyland appears on the cover of the new issue of Seventeen, on stands May 22, where she revealed some pretty major stuff.

The 21-year-old told the mag she'd been quietly battling kidney dysplasia and underwent a kidney transplant on April 13. The actress, who got the kidney from her dad and gave the interview while recovering from surgery.

"You know that family is always going to be there for you - no matter what. My dad gave me a freakin' kidney!" she told Seventeen. "But it's also the families that you create outside of your family.

"And you really find out what kind of people you're friends with."
