Movie Review: 'Vamps' -- 2 stars

It's hard to distinguish whether writer-director Amy Heckerling's vampire film is a farce or a legit romance-tinged comedy. As a farce, it's rather successful. As a regular comedy ...
The film reunites Heckerling with Alicia Silverstone, who paired up for the hit 1995 film "Clueless." Here, Silverstone plays Goody, a vampire living in New York City with her pal and fellow vamp Stacy (Krysten Ritter). They go out at night, date and act as clothing models for their vampire superior Cisserus. (Remember, they can't see themselves in mirrors.)
The film provides some interesting, clever and bold interpretations of the familiar bloodsucking tropes - I'm especially fond of its treatment of Vlad the Impaler (Malcolm McDowell). If Heckerling had only made the decision to fully commit to the movie's farcical leanings, this could be a cult flick in the making.
