A deadly two-vehicle accident closed the upper level of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge for more than two hours Friday, an MTA spokeswoman said.

One person died and another was injured in the accident about 12:30 p.m. in the westbound lanes of the upper level, spokeswoman Judie Glave said.

Police and rescue personnel closed the westbound lanes on the upper level for about 2½ hours, she said.

The lanes were cleared and normal traffic resumed by about 3 p.m., she said.

Traffic in the eastbound lanes was stopped for about a half-hour, she said, as emergency vehicles moved into place.

A spokesman for New York City police said no other information was immediately available.
