MTA: Man hit, killed by train Wednesday night in Queens
Service on the Port Washington branch of the Long Island Rail Road was suspended for about an hour Wednesday night after a westbound train struck and killed a man at the station at Flushing / Main Street, a railroad official said.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority police have not released the identity of the man, pending notification of next of kin. A railroad spokeswoman said the case is being investigated as a suicide.
The railroad said the man was struck by the 8:09 p.m. train from Port Washington to Penn Station as it approached the east end of the westbound platform in Flushing at 8:37 p.m.
Service was suspended until about 9:45 p.m.
At least four trains -- the 8:48 p.m. train from Penn to Port Washington, the 8:39 p.m. train from Port Washington to Penn, the 9:18 p.m. train from Penn to Port Washington and the 9:09 p.m. from Port Washington to Penn -- were canceled. At least two trains were delayed.
Fares were cross-honored by New York City Transit during the service suspension, with riders being advised to use the No. 7 subway train.
