A 30-year transportation industry veteran who was in charge of the subway system during Superstorm Sandy was named president of New York City Transit Wednesday.

Carmen Bianco, 61, had been acting president of NYC Transit since April, replacing Thomas Prendergast, who was made interim director of the MTA before becoming its CEO and chairman.

Bianco, who had previously served as senior vice president of the Department of Subways, oversaw the entire subway system since 2010.
