Countdown clocks at a dozen stations were shut down Thursday because of the heat – and MTA officials weren’t sure if they’d all be back up Friday.
Due to the sweltering temperatures, the MTA said, communications rooms that hold the countdown clock equipment can exceed 120 degrees. As a result, the agency has had to install cooling systems and the equipment had to be turned off.
Some of the impacted stations include 77th Street and Lexington Avenue, and 59th Street Columbus Circle. More than 110 stations in the system have countdown clocks.
