MTA worker fatally hit on subway tracks, 2nd man hurt, cops say

A subway train pinned two MTA track workers early Thursday morning in Brooklyn, killing one and injuring the other, the NYPD said.

A southbound G train traveling around a curve at the Fort Hamilton Parkway station pinned both men as they worked as flagmen on the tracks shortly after midnight Thursday, the NYPD said.

Police responded to a 911 call for a person struck at the station at Greenwood and Prospect avenues.

The 53-year-old man had body trauma and was taken to Maimonides Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The 49-year-old man was taken to New York Methodist Hospital, where he remains in stable condition with trauma to his torso, police said.

The men’s identities were not disclosed by police.

The NYPD said it is the lead investigative agency in the case.

In a statement, New York City Transit said the accident happened as three workers were setting up a safe work zone for a contractor when a train approached and struck two of the workers about 12:05 a.m.

New York City Transit president Ronnie Hakim extended condolences in a statement and said the safety of the agency’s workers is paramount.

She said her agency is reviewing its safety standards and is in safety stand-down, meaning all nonemergency track work has been halted.
