New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Thursday agreed to reimburse his state more than $2,000 for using a police helicopter to get to his son’s baseball game on Tuesday.

A Christie spokesman said the governor chose to refund the $2,251 even though the trip did not cost taxpayers extra money because the flights were used for training purposes and the hours would have been logged regardless.

The darling of the Republican party had faced a storm of criticism earlier in the week for his private use of the state police helicopter.
