Gov. Chris Christie returns to New Jersey after campaigning for Republicans to decide whether to scrap a new commuter rail tunnel into Manhattan.
Christie told reporters in Illinois on Tuesday that he plans to meet with his transit team Wednesday to review revised federal cost estimates for the tunnel, which is expected to see cost overruns.
A decision could come at the end of the week.
The Republican governor halted new work on the tunnel for 30 days while the review was being done.
Christie says he won’t go ahead with the $8.7 billion project unless New Jersey has a way to pay for it.
