Nametag Day a success; more are planned

Coordinators of Nametag Day, a grassroots effort devoted to making the city friendlier, have decided to make the day an annual event.

More than 100 volunteers distributed 20,000 nametags on Saturday. Introductions were eased, friendships were fostered and relationships commenced. The next Nametag Day will occur June 7, 2014.

This year's effort occurred courtesy of a $3,500 grant from the Awesome Foundation and donations made via Crowdtilt. "We don't want to keep begging friends for money, so we're going to try and see if we can get (corporate) sponsorship," possibly without having a company name billboarding each nametag, said logistics coordinator Dina Tsukrov, 26, of Morris Park. "That's our issue: Finding a balance. We don't want to make this a commercial event," she said.

A documentary about this year's Nametag Day, made with the aid of three volunteer videographers and contributed film sent to event organizers, should appear on the group's website within the next week or two.
