New York basketball fans won't have to wait very long to see the Knicks and Nets square off next season.
The Nets' first regular-season opponent in the Barclays Center in Brooklyn will be the crosstown rival Knicks, according to league sources. Both teams open the 2012-13 campaign with that Nov. 1 matchup, which also will be televised nationally on TNT, the sources said.
The entire 2012-13 schedule will be announced on Thursdayat 7 p.m. in a one-hour show on NBA TV.
Both teams have had a very busy offseason and grabbed national attention with their moves.
The Knicks' biggest move was choosing not to match the Houston Rockets' three-year, $25.1 million offer sheet to Jeremy Lin that included a $14.9 million "poison pill" in Year 3.
The Nets were involved in trade discussions for Magic All-Star center Dwight Howard.
The Dolan family owns controlling interests in the Knicks, MSG and Cablevision. Cablevision owns amNewYork.
