New app makes Facebook stalking easier than ever
If you’ve been waiting out someone’s relationship, you’re in luck, as a new Facebook app will tell you the second they become single.
Breakup Notifier, which launched Sunday night, let’s you set up a list of friends to keep tabs on, then sends you an e-mail when their relationship status changes. The service’s creepiness didn’t go unnoticed by the blogosphere, where it was widely called stalker-like.
Dan Loewenherz, 24, of Los Angeles, the app’s developer who’s been engaged since July, said his app “doesn’t legitimize the creepiness. It just says, do what you want, here’s a practical tool.”
More than 150,000 people came to the site within 24 hours of its launch, and about 20,000 people signed up for the service.
For the time being, the app is free, but Loewenherz said he may start charging.
So does Loewenherz think anyone’s waiting to see his engagement status change?
“No comment,” he said with a laugh.
