New charges for Espada, son
A former New York State senator and his son are facing new charges in their federal corruption case.
Prosecutors in Brooklyn said Wednesday that a revised indictment accuses Pedro Espada Jr. and his son, Pedro G. Espada, with lying about their incomes and profits at their federally funded health care clinic in the Bronx.
The Espadas have already pleaded not guilty to charges they embezzled more than $500,000 from the clinic. Prosecutors say they used the money to pay for expensive meals, concerts and family birthday parties.
The father and son are to be arraigned on the new charges next week. Jury selection for their trial is scheduled to begin March 12. -- AP
