‘42’
Baseball movies are a genre unto themselves, and there are a disproportionate number of good ones. “42,” a new biopic about the Brooklyn Dodgers’ Jackie Robinson, adds to that list. Chadwick Boseman provides a wonderful portrayal of the player who broke the color barrier in 1947, looking at the struggles he faced in making the team as well as the hatred he experienced after he did. Harrison Ford gives a standout performance as Dodgers president Branch Rickey, who had the guts to bring integration to Major League Baseball. “42” is powerful and important, both as a baseball picture and a civil rights film. As a baseball movie, it tells a significant story worthy of memorializing with some great moments for fans. As a civil rights film, it’s educating and uplifting. The kicker here is that it is also very entertaining. “42” is a must-see film. (DVD, $28.98; Blu-ray/DVD combo, $35.99)

‘Evil Dead’
Horror fans: Here’s that remake of “Evil Dead” that you never asked for. If you can divorce yourself from the idea of remaking a cult classic, you might have some fun thrills here. (DVD, $30.99; Blu-ray, $35.99)

‘Bullet to the Head’
Sly Stallone is a hit man out for revenge who teams up with a cop. There will be, as you may have guessed, many bullets. (Blu-ray/DVD combo, $35.99)

‘Solomon Kane’
James Purefoy (“Rome”) stars in this 16th century-set action flick about a Puritan out to save a kidnapped girl. Very violent, but what would you expect from a character created by Robert E. Howard, who also thought up “Conan the Barbarian”? (DVD, $22.98; Blu-ray, $26.99)

‘Orphan Black: Season One’
This BBC America series — about a woman who takes on the identity of a stranger who she saw commit suicide — could land star Tatiana Maslany an Emmy nomination. (DVD, $29.98; Blu-ray, $34.98)

TV on DVD
-- “Damages: The Complete Fifth Season’ (DVD, $45.99)
-- “Hell on Wheels: The Complete Second Season’ (DVD, $39.98; Blu-ray, $49.98)
-- “Matlock: The Ninth Season’ (DVD, $49.99)
-- “Regular Show: The First and Second Seasons’ (DVD, $36.94; Blu-ray, $39.98)
